Systems

Systems come in all forms, shapes, and sizes. Infrastructures depend on many different systems collaborating and interoperating as one. When we talk about systems, we thus mean anything from the most generic, such as an operating system, to the most specialised that only solve one particular task. More specialised systems build on top of the more generic ones.

Systems are generally constructed out of many different components — components with specialised purposes. These systems in turn can be components of far more complex and advanced systems, where each component, or subsystem, performs its task and contributes to a whole. We call these, complex systems.
